![]() Between the actors, there was 19 years difference, if we do not think just about particular people in the roles, Eric should be 35 - 40 to be able both to be "father and teacher" to Christine, and to be young enough to be "sexy". For the whole story to make some sense, Erik must be at least a generation older then Christine (or almost a generation). Schumacher wanted his cast to be young (and sexy) - as he said himself, which meant especially to make Erik younger (Christine is in both version 16 - 17 years old, and Raoul must be just few years older, to make him "her childhood sweetheart"). The Erik of Leroux lived a completely different life before the story and was supposed to be much older - maybe in his 50s. It also depends on which Erik we are speaking about. What are your opinions? This is driving me slightly nuts (I told you I get singleminded sometimes). My best estimate is that Erik is between 32 and 36 at the time of the story (making him 23-27 when Christine first comes to the opera house ) and somewhere between 81 and 85 at the end of the movie, when we see the rose and ring on Christine's grave. My guess is that Madam Giry is on older than her early 40s. We see a young Madame Giry with Erik in the Carnival flash-backs but it's hard to guess how close in age the two of them are my guess is that they are fairly close in age, with Erik being slightly younger. ![]() If she died in 1917, she was 63, and she was married to Raoul for 47 years. The main story takes place in 1870 and Christine is supposed to be 16 (which is comfirmed when we see the year of her birth, 1854, on her tombstone). ![]() ![]() Don't know if this is something that was discussed before I joined, but, being the somewhat single minded person that I am, everytime I watch POTO, I am trying to figure out just how much older than Christine Erik is. ![]()
